Trekking Poles for Walking and Hiking
Personal Walking Pole Review
"I am addicted to my trekking and hiking poles! Yes I am of a certain age, not old, but not young and suffer slightly from a little vertigo from time to time. I LOVE walking and have discovered how awesome it is to walk with Trekking Poles.
I recently got my mum a pair, she is also now using them daily on her walks in inner urban Melbourne. I know how uneven the pavements can be, there are trip hazards everywhere. They give you a sense of safety and steadiness on any surface.
I live in the country, and they are brilliant. Not only do they keep you steady, but they reduce the impact on your legs, knees, ankles, and feet, especially when descending. They can bear approximately 5kg of your load on the flat surface and 8kg on an incline. That is a lot of pressure off your knees!
We all know that walking is good for us, but you only use around 35% of your muscles when walking, with the added arm movement with the poles it helps to engage up to 90% of your muscles! Your upper body is getting that extra workout, which is great for toning up your arms, shoulders and back and extra cardio!
I use trekking & hiking poles that are light and telescopic and very easy to adjust. They also have a rubber tip, so they don't slip. My mum has 1 beside the bed to assist her to go to the bathroom at night.
If you are a keen walker and love the outdoors, get yourself better posture, better knees, steadiness, and a better workout with some trekking poles!

Walking Pole for Stability
Walking poles, often associated with hiking, can also offer stability and support in urban environments. Whether navigating uneven pavements, crossing slippery surfaces, or simply maintaining balance in crowded areas, trekking poles provide an extra point of contact, reducing the risk of falls and enhancing overall stability. This added stability can be particularly beneficial for seniors or those with balance issues.
Extra Fitness Benefits
Using trekking poles in the city can transform an ordinary walk into a full-body workout. By engaging the arms, shoulders, and core, walking poles increase calorie burn and promote better posture. This added intensity can turn a leisurely stroll into a more effective exercise session, helping to improve cardiovascular health and muscle tone.
Hiking Poles Ease Certain Muscle Strain
When walking on hard surfaces like concrete or asphalt, the repetitive impact can strain muscles and joints, especially in the knees and hips. Trekking poles help distribute some of this impact, reducing strain on these areas and potentially preventing injuries. By sharing the load between the upper and lower body, walking poles can make urban walking more comfortable and sustainable.
Trekking Pole Peace of Mind
In busy city environments, trekking poles offer a sense of security and peace of mind. They can be used to fend off stray animals, navigate through dense crowds, or even as a makeshift tool for self-defense. Additionally, having trekking poles at hand can provide a sense of empowerment, allowing individuals to tackle challenging terrains or unexpected obstacles with confidence.
